Scorpion Forge...Stainless??

Discussion in 'CJA Edged Art / Scorpion Forge' started by CrisAnderson27, Apr 13, 2016.

  1. Nine gyuto, all in a row!

    20160505_005720.jpg
From left to right are the five 205-225mm XH, then two 205mm ish standard, and then the two 240mm XH.

They're all hardened, and most of them have the most difficult part ground. From there, it'll be final grinding, polishing, and handling. They were all (but one!) intended to go to the ECG, but I don't think they're all going to make it lol. All but two are available for sale.

    Priced left to right:
    230mm XH - SOLD
    220mm XH - SOLD
    210mm XH - $750
    205mm XH - $750
    205mm XH - $750
    205mm S - $650
    210mm S - $650
    240mm XH - $850
    240mm XH - $850

Since these are the first run (I want to make most of them special in some way), and I'm still working out options for the handles...I'm open to some discussion in regards to what the customer is looking for...as long as it fits somewhat within the less expensive theme for the knives. Some extra cost options will probably be allowed also (three spacers, specific handle materials, etc), but again...I'm not 100% sure what.

So please, feel free to message if you're interested, and we'll see if we can figure something out :).

  2. UPDATE!!!

    230mm XH - SOLD
    220mm XH - $750
    210mm XH - $750
    205mm XH - $750
    205mm XH - $750
    205mm S - $650
    210mm S - SOLD
    240mm XH - SOLD
    240mm XH - SOLD

And a few pictures of a 220 XH in process:

This one is a little beast! As of now, it's spoken for...but a few people have been bouncing around their choices, so we'll see how it goes lol.

  3. Also, keep in mind that this knife is also for sale, $550 without a saya, $600 with. I haven't been pushing it because I've been using it...but if you like thick, HEAVY petty knives, this thing is a dream. Surprisingly enough it also works well enough for gyuto type board work that it really filled a slot in my kitchen that I didn't know I even had.

I won't be sad if it doesn't sell, lol.

  4. That 220 is tempting, hoping it makes it to the ECG. I prefer simpler handles, maybe one nickle spacer:cool1.

I am sorry if it doesn't make it to ECG. :tpk

Cris...did you steal that blue ruler?

  6. Bill, I'll see what I can do for you :D. It won't be that one though, for sure...as it's already spoken for, lol.

This one will be there for sure though. 240 XH.

I'm going to be gluing up handle blocks for a bunch of knives tomorrow before the Mother's Day dinner stuff...so they should be ready. I'm giving myself until Tuesday to finish whatever is going to the ECG, so it can be mailed out in time.

I wonder what the mail lady is going to say about me putting $5k in insurance on a large flat rate box, lol??

You selling or just showing at the ECG? Trying to figure out how much green to bring, lol.

  8. Everything that makes it to the ECG except the above 240 will be for sale :). I'll still take payment via PayPal though.

That is some beautiful work Cris. Do I see on one shown with the dime, that the tang is thinned? wonder if you could talk about that?

  10. Thanks Mike!

I'm not sure what you mean by "thinned"? Unless you mean the way I cut the shoulders on my XH knives? If so, what would you like to know?

  11. Well ladies and gentlemen, the knives headed to the ECG went out today. Here's a short video along with some higher resolution pictures for you all :).

    20160511_110741.jpg 20160511_111531.jpg 20160511_111553.jpg 20160511_111617.jpg 20160511_110818.jpg 20160511_110830.jpg 20160511_110906.jpg 20160511_110930.jpg 20160511_110940.jpg 20160511_110952.jpg 20160511_111005.jpg 20160511_111020.jpg 20160511_111042.jpg 20160511_111056.jpg 20160511_111106.jpg

Price is set at $650 for the three larger knives (one 205mm standard grind, and two 180mm middle grinds (between an XH and standard). The 120mm petty is still set at $550.

    Thanks for looking guys :).

  12. Fabulous work as usual Cris!

  13. Haha, for some reason I didn't see this.

Yes sir. I lifted it from my youngest's backpack :D.

    "

    Thanks man :).

  14. Chris those look great, can't wait to try them out! Need to sell my 150 Carter petty to free up some funds;). Thanks for knocking those out in time!!!

  15. Thanks Bill!

I just wish all of the knives I'd planned could have been finished. The 240 in particular was a huge heartbreak for me, partly because I wanted you guys to handle one, but also because it was a custom (fully custom handle), and the owner...who lives out of the country...will be attending and was supposed to receive his knife there. That said more steel is on the way so I can replace both of those 240's, so that loss may work out to be other's gain. I'll be working on customs for a month or so, then will likely start a new batch of the stainless knives.

  16. That green handle is amazing

  17. Thanks Alex :D.

I'm definitely going to be talking to those guys to see if I can pick up some more of that wood. I'd actually ignored it all this time, because they sent it to me with the corners all cut off (similar to a wa handle blank I guess), which makes it a ROYAL pain to use and keep everything true.

I wanted something a bit special for the ECG though, and definitely think it was worth the effort :).

  18. Hey @CrisAnderson27, any feedback on what happened to the 240's as mentioned in the video?
