Jumping on the Xerxes Primus bandwagon. This one's a Primus II.

  17. Not surprised at all you snagged that one:). What was it like 2 minutes....

Very nice knife. What is the difference between primes I and II?

As far as I can tell from the Messerkontor website and Google Translate, The Primus I has a copper pin and end plate with a Moore oak handle, while the Primus II has a forged iron pin and end plate with a bog oak handle. Blade length, height, spine thickness all are the same. I can't see any difference in the profile from the pictures on the website or from comparing mine to Marc's in photos. There is a €100 difference in the price, which has me puzzled since there isn't that much difference between the two knives.

I've been using it for everything since I got it Monday, and I'm impressed. Potatoes, onions, peppers, celery, cabbage, pineapple, slab bacon, tomatoes - moves right through without problems. I'll be trying it on sweet potatoes Sunday.

I think they're fantastic blades. But yes, I also scratch my head at the price difference. They look to be the same knife except for the copper/ iron/ wood handle differences. Either way, nothing shy of worth every penny/ pound.
