Kyoto knives

Discussion in 'The Kitchen Knife' started by Mute-on, Mar 23, 2016.

  1. Hi all,

Currently in Kyoto. Visited Shigeharu this afternoon. The owner came into the display area from the back still wearing his forging gloves and looking pretty dirty.

I managed to convey enough to identify a blue San-Mai yanagiba and a Damascus Santoku (unknown steel). Had to buy them. Pics on return ;)

    Cheers

  6. Ok, now in Tokyo. Staying in Shibuya. Have had many great meals but no time for photos before eating (sorry Chanop!).

Visited Kiya. They had 3 Shig knives and 3 Shig tools. They now have 2 Shig tools ;)

    More updates soon :)

Awesome! Too bad I didn't read this before. You could have maybe hooked up some forging fun with Bazes Blades.

  8. Yeah, that's a bummer :(

Made another couple of purchases at Yoshizawa Rikou in my support of the cause to bring all Shigs to Australia, their rightful home ;)

It's been a fantastic trip! Too short though, so I guess we'll have to come back to do the rest :)

    Cheers

  9. Cannot wait for the pictures from Shigeharu. I was there by chance a couple of decades ago when I had no clue about knives and to this day I regret not having bought a couple of knives from them

  10. Waiting for the pictures everything in you lr trip sounds perfect.

  11. Sorry guys. Between twins and work not much time for photo reviewing. I'll try to get something up soon.

I can say that if you are contemplating a trip to Japan, just go!! You won't regret it :)
