Chinese Cleaver Interpretation

Discussion in 'Brock Cutlery' started by Mark Brock, Sep 17, 2020.

  1. This is something I have been quietly working up. I'm finish sanding right now and getting ready to handle and wanted to get some input if anyone has a mind to comment.
It measures 64mm by 160 mm length.

It's a thin convex grind. Slight belly on it.
    AEBL at 63 Rockwell hardness.
I'm thinking a shortish barrel shape octo wa handle, something like that.

Any thoughts on the size, grind, shape, handle?
    Thanks for having a look!

  2. About 3 hours of hand sanding later, the more refined 2000 grit polish. Yes, that's 3 hours or so per side. :\
This one will be buffed to mirror finish shorty, after logo is applied.

  3. And just like that another Brock blade is born. :)

I'm thinking, hidden tang, western for the handle
  7. I considered it. But going with a Japanese Octo handle. Half built already. I appreciate the suggestion though Chef!

    Beautiful work, sir!
  9. Finished this one up this morning. Came out very nice and sharp as all heck. :)

It measures 64mm by 160 mm length.
12 inches overall length. Handle is 5.25 inches.
The handle is black and white ebony with a simple silver half dollar spacer.
This one has a thin convex grind, so would be considered a slicer. It was taken to zero at the edge.
As you can see it has a slight belly on it.
The balance is about 1 inch in front of the choil.
    Full distal taper.
    2.25mm above the heal.
    AEBL at 63 Rockwell hardness.

This is available: $245 shipped US.
    Thanks for having a look!

Stunning result Mark! The indexing of the grain on the wood is the money.
