Carbon/wooden rings on Kickstarter

Discussion in 'The Off Topic Room' started by Anton, Dec 29, 2014.

  1. They look nice, but wonder about the toughness of them, carbon fibre is a tough material but brittle from what I understand so maybe accidentally banging your hand on something pretty hard could crack one?
I am thinking more extreme though I guess as I wear my wedding ring all the time at work and have had a lot of heavy stuff whack into it, like fitting an oven and getting my hand bashed into the cabinet next to it:confused:

  2. Yeah, it might be brittleā€¦ and I'm not sure how long wood inlay would survive in constant contact with skin.

Warren, how about Tungsten Carbide ring? They are pretty resistant to all forms of abuse (well, maybe except diamond plates).

Visually, I say yay. If I had access, I'd put them in my shop.

I have a tungsten carbide ring, and to date is the only one I haven't been able to bend while I'm wearing it. Those are nice, must be super light!

One of my customers makes titanium rings and inlays stabilized wood.
    Sorry but no photos.

They look cool enough but I'd have to see and feel one to really develop an opinion.
