I can't link to the auction, because there is still one left, and I haven't gotten the knife yet, but I got one of the Sakai Ichimonji 240mm blue steel gyutos from bluewayjapan. Pictures will follow.

It is. I am anxious, I feel I will either love it or it'll be on the BST pretty fast.

Just saw this, really a great looking knife. Of course, I love the handle as least as much as the steel...

Whats a wide bevel and why do I want one ?

It is a double beveled knife with the wider bevel characteristic of a single bevel knife, but with a big bevel on both sides. The wide bevel style has a few things about it: it gets thinned as a part of sharpening so geometry is maintained, things tend not to stick to them, and they are cool looking. You get a nice big bevel to create contrast on.

I have one of their Satoku's. I really like it.

And they are usually terrific cutters with thin, thin edges. Also, the grind is usually pretty flawless, as this style takes some skill.

    Looks like a killer knife....

    James,
Is it a Masakage Koishi? Are you developing a brand loyalty? Whatever it is, it is sweeeeet! I have a 150 Wa Petty Masakage yuki purchased from a member here and is mighty fine. still getting used to it, but it brings it.
