  3. That’s actually a draw for my son. I might encourage that rabbit hole for him. Being able to feed people is impressive and important.

The other thing they are known for is music -- especially blues. I haven't been, but there is a lot of live music. Beale Street has a lot, from what Google is telling me. Plus they have a music Hall of Fame. And there's Elvis stuff + Graceland. Elvis Week is August 8 - 16.

  5. The Bass Pro Shop in the Pyramid is really cool and worth a visit. The National Civil Rights Museum is really well done as well. Great zoo from what I remember, but oof a Zoo in Memphis in August... no thanks. And yeah, Graceland of course.

I know to be back at the hotel before dark.

I'm going there in November, staying at the hotel in Bass Pro Shops. I haven't been there since I was a kid. Beal Street was cool, Graceland and all the Elvis stuff. It really depends on what type of stuff and activities you are in to.

  7. My son has what I call his Fifty State Initiative. Arkansas is riiiiiiiiight there, and Mississippi isn’t to far away either. Last year we did Cincinnati, that netted us WV, IN, and KY. Maybe in a few years, we’ll hit up Four Corners.

  8. If you head to Arkansas let me know, grew up there and have plenty of recommendations.

Was there end of last month. Actually just across the line in Olive Branch, MS. Ate at the Memphis BBQ Company. It was good enough I'd like to go back.

My one line take on Memphis from my recent trip - Visit once, and then check it off your list. It wasn't terrible by any means. It was just vastly different from what I was expecting. I guess I was comparing it to Nashville and it's like night and day. Memphis is dead compared to Nashville. We walked up/down Beale street and that was meh as well. Just a bunch of bars, and only one was playing live music. Granted it was during the day but still. There were just no tourists to support the bars during the day I guess.

We stayed at the Bass Pro Shops which was nice. The rooms were nice, the staff were nice. I didn't like how dark everything was though. There was 1 light in the toilet room and it was on the wall behind the toilet so it was dark in there. Other than that you're staying in a retail store so it's about like what you'd expect. It never turns off. At night the cleaning and stocking crews come out so pull your shades in the room and good luck.

I was pleasantly surprised at the food though. We didn't even get BBQ and the food was still decent. We ate at Wahlburgers at the Pyramid, then at the top of the Pyramid, and found some breakfast shop in town. It wasn't mind blowing but I'd eat everywhere again.

Here's some shots from the Bass Pro. No where else was really worth taking photos of.
