Quick Review of the Chaps over at Home Butcher

So I thought I'd share a recent experience I had with the folks over at Homebutcher.com (aka Rodriguez Butcher Supply inc) this past week. Short and sweet, great guys to deal with.

I was on the fence about deciding between two Oatley knives, but when I was offered a 15% discount to pick up both I just couldn't refuse. That 15% added up to some big savings, and on top of that there was free shipping and no taxes. Did I mention free shipping? It was free overnight shipping. All sounds like a great deal, right? Well it got better. They even threw in a complimentary Yetti mug. I, not being a coffee drinker, had no idea what a Yetti is. So I looked it up. Those things can get pricey!

This all happened on a Sunday. Fast forward to Tuesday morning, I'm opening a box to find two very well packed gems along with their monogrammed Yetti thingy. That night I returned home from work to find my wife standing in the kitchen holding this Yetti jumbo thermos thing, waiting for me. She calmly asked if I actually spent money on it. She, being a coffee drinker, knows exactly what a Yetti is. In her words, "they are like the Porsche of coffee thermoses". She was a little perplexed why I would spend money on such a thing. I calmly replied "that's for you, darlin. It cost me nothing. The gents from the Home Butcher (I pointed at the engraved monogram) sent it to me for free. I figured you'd be happy." She was. Very much so in fact. So much that the conversation stopped there. She didn't even bother to inquire about what I had bought to receive such a nice gift. Perfect. And now this fancy mug resides in my wife's care for her morning kale shakes and office coffees.

It's this kind of customer care that warrants a positive mentioning, I believe. Couldn't be happier with this transaction. It also helps that this transaction delivered 2 very kick butt knives as well. I know several here, like myself, have suffered awful transactions/customer service from less than stellar persons/companies somewhere in life. Whether it be knife related or something else. By nature we share these sour experiences with others, be it friends, family, co-workers and/or fellow forum members. Seldom do we regale over the outstanding experiences we encounter, or if we do the circle of people we share it with is typically smaller. This one is definitely worth sharing and reporting.

I'd say these guys are right up there with Jon Broida at JKI when it comes to customer satisfaction. At least in my experience.

Below are some pics of the knives and trophy winning gift. The top 2 pics I took with my celly. The others are from the gents at Home Butcher. And again, the knives are both Oatley-- 250mm Gyuto and a 182mm Nakiri, both in stainless damasteel.

Thanks for writing about your experiences. I see them on IG all of the time, and it seems like they get some nice knives to sell, and they are pretty passionate about what they are doing. Glad to hear they were great to deal with as well.

I've bought two knives from them, a Del Ealy and a Salem Straub, and can add my recommendation. Good folks to do business with.

  5. Thanks for the write up, they have been on my radar for a while, might be heading to Austin over rather winter, they aren't far from there, I'll make sure to swing by

Nice to hear about the good CS. I have not purchased from them yet, but they have some cool stuff coming through so it's just a matter of time.

It took me a little bit to realize you didn't buy any chaps. I'm familiar with motorcycle chaps but was really concerned with how chaps would be worn and used in the kitchen.

knowing Marc, i would not be surprised if he wore chaps made out of kitchen knives...

Those yetti are also good for cold beverages. So my wife tells me. She uses it for her health shake thing every morning.
