  1. This Yanagiba is my latest sharpening challenge, just mounted to a more traditional wa handle and working on the edge.

    Very nice lines

  3. Thanks Mike. I appreciate the feedback. This is my third yanagi study. It is quite a challenging knife to make correctly.
This one is quite a bit better in design than my first attempts and I would really like to understand how this one functions. I am thinking about possibly passing this one around for some good feedback.
It is AEBL at 63 rockwell, with ironwood and a real silver spacer in the handle.

Nice looking knife, am interested, as well, to see how this beauty functions. :pop

  5. I found some interesting red oak in California and thought it might make some nice handle wood.
I had it stabilized at K and G and did a quick sanding and buff to see how it might look.
It does show some pores, so a CA finish is likely going to be best.

What do you guys think of this wood?

  6. Not the best pics yet, but I am working on it. Latest Gyuto in medullary ray oak and ebony with true silver ingot space on 52100 steel at 62 hardness.

  9. Mark, this extremely nice. This profile is a bomb. And the handle is very classy.

  10. That gyuto turned out incredibly well, the profile is sweet, some lucky guy must have gotten that one ;)
