Man, just got a new machine and it came with Windows Ten. I am sure that some day I will get used to it, but I fail to see why they think they have to completely re-do how windows works every couple years. I get so P.O.'d having to learn a new system when all I want to do is turn it on and do the things I use a computer for the way I've been doing it. Now it takes hours just to get it set up and for it to quit pestering you with all that some slack jawed mouth breathing nerd thinks is the hottest thing to hit the market. I know, I did just turn 60, so its probably me, not you Cortana... ARRGGGG

  2. My laptop keeps trying to get me to download Windows 10, I keep declining it!
I am just used to Windows 7, Windows 10 might be great for all I know, but I can't be bothered fiddling about with the new layout, probably me being lazy!

Haha, just be glad you don't have Apple -- they are the kings of cramming OS upgrades down your throat (even if the particular device is too old to handle it)

My windows 10 did auto updates on 2 computers and gave me blank screens with cursers. Lost a day of work fixing them. At least microsoft tried to help. Hard to believe they didn't work mire bugs out before release. I still use an XP notebook when I can.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! You have such a sense of humor!

Husband claims his Apple is too old to be able to make any more upgrades. Bah. I really, really dislike Apple and their policies. "Don't think, just plug everything in and drop all your protections and we'll take care of everything."

    I'm a big Linux fan.

  9. Thanks! I was planning to upgrade to Windows 10 tomorrow. This should be a big help.

Well....despite my love of all things Apple I bought a new laptop PC last week. I bought a Mac Mini in 2012 and have not used a PC since. In fact...last Windows OS I used was Vista!
Only reason I bought the laptop PC was because it was on clearance for half price AND we had a $75.00 off coupon for clearance PC's. 1/4 the price of the Macbook I wanted so yeah....it was a no brainer.

If you can install a clean version of Windows 10 that's your best bet. You'll need to visit the Mircorsoft website and download the Media Creation Tool. Make sure you know if you need the 32 bit or 64 bit. You can find this out in your system info on the PC.

Here are some links to help: http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/

First thing I did with mine is swap out the hard drive for a SSD drive and install a clean version of Windows 10 from the above links. I did the "custom install Windows only". But I'm pretty sure you can install a clean version without swapping hard drives.
What this did for me was erase all the Bloatware (useless software that is pre-loaded on your PC that you will never use and all it does is bog down your system).

If you can do this you will see a major improvement on performance.

As far as learning Windows 10...Well, I'm right there in the boat with you. Best advice I can give is google all your questions. There is someone out there with an answer. Heck..I had to google "how to get to control panel in Windows 10".

No option to do that without downloading something? This looks like a 3rd party thing no?

Yes it is an add on.. this is the first version of windows that does not have it included I am told.
Brian may be able to add more when he stops laughing...

In finally used to 7 after using XP for ever... I don't want to go to ten but probably will in the next couple of months on a new rig. My laptop and desktop both took a dump on me this week.

My windows ten loaded right into desktop mode without having to download anything. I didnt even have to switch to it, unless it was an option during the initial setup. but i never seen and still havent seen the tile mode

It appears they want everything to act like a smart phone.

10 for me acts like a faster smart windows 7, I hated XP and this took care of it for me. Im happy I made the switch... it was seemless. didnt have an issue with any of my drivers, or my raid setup

They are slowly turning your desktop into a big tablet. Everything is an app now.
