230mm W2 Honyaki 'Live Edge' Gyuto-hiki

Discussion in 'CJA Edged Art / Scorpion Forge' started by CrisAnderson27, Nov 27, 2015.

  1. This knife was commissioned by my return customer and good friend Cesar Cruz (Halloween Parer, lol). This knife went EXCEEDINGLY well, and was truly a joy to make.

Fun fact, the thickest part of the blade (just forward of the heel), is 1.7mm thick ;).

Steel - AISI W2 from Aldo at New Jersey Steel Baron

Handle - Stabilized 'live edge' California Buckeye Burl with antique copper (from Peoria High School water lines lol) spacers. This was the last of the 'Live Edge' buckeye burl I had, and so that makes this knife one of three very unique blades.

I don't normally like the live edge doncept, but this was well done.

  3. Thanks Robert! I tend to agree on most of them that I see. The concept of 'lets just leave a live part of this tree hanging out there for the sake of it' isn't something that suits me. The trick for me is for the handle to still look 'finished'...but still have bark/holes etc. Finding the right piece of wood for that is tough lol. Bringing a finished handle out of it is tougher still.

  4. You need to get more of those live edge buckeyes cos they are really tempting me

  5. Trust me! I've been looking!
