  1. Yes sir! Only you don't have to hear the cussing or duck flung tools and wrecked blades lol!

    :D

  2. The time has come for this beasty to get my attention again :).

    Forged and partially ground.

Ground to 120 grit and ready for heat treat.

As you can see, this thing is a bit of a beast (that word keeps popping up!) lol. 4.8mm on the spine over the heel. I'll be doing the heat treat tonight. Marc has asked for a lot of 'cloudy' activity under the hamon (like Warren's knife)...so we're going to see what we can do. Things like that usually aren't under my control...but I've got some ideas that might work in my favor :).

  3. Love this one. Beefy and beastly. Looking forward to the finished article.

    :)

  4. Definitely beefy! Understand however...it will still be a thin knife! It will have great balance though. I'm planning to blend the best traits of my lasers with the forward heft and 'drop' through food feel of a workhorse. We'll see how it goes ;).

  5. Also, I forgot to add. Current specs are 255x55. I'll tailor the final specs down to 245-250mm or so, with as much of the height retained as I can.

I am very excited about this! Bring on the beast!

  7. I'm claying it up now my friend. Should be hardened within an hour or two :).

  8. Yes sir! I've used this method to great effect tempering swords in 375°F oil. The problem with it now is that its difficult to get that conglomeration in my tempering oven...lol. Once I get moved that's the exact method I'll be using 90% of the time :).

Someone told me that they googled my name after they saw a pic of me with Mr Bob Kramer. I thought that was funny, but then became curious what pops up in a Google search. This thread is one one of them!
I always Google my restaurants, but never thought of just doing myself. It gave me a good chuckle for sure.

But I love that this thread came up! This has been one of my most highest anticipated knives yet, and I'm still VERY EXCITED to see it come about.
Cris, you're a damned gentleman, and I've thoroughly enjoyed our conversations.
Hope all is going well for you, brother!

  10. Aww, thanks man!!

Maybe we can let the anticipation build for another year? :D

More seriously though...this knife is on my short list. Things have been anything but smooth lately, but one way or the other that's going to change after Thursday (for better or worse won't matter as far as work goes). I'll be going back into full production mode after that, and should be able to start kicking out projects on a weekly basis again.

I'm also hoping to get the razors going along side of it all...but that's a secondary concern beside to my kitchen knife work.

Anyhow! I'll be updating this thread soon with pictures of a blade in progress...but for now I'll tease you all with some pictures of the basswood prototype I ground out for him:

    20150625_213623.jpg 20150625_213623.jpg 20150625_213753.jpg 20150625_213827.jpg 20150625_213958.jpg

The wooden model is 150% to scale, as you can see in the last picture here comparing the tip section with a real blade. It's the same prototype I used to make @Anton and @V1P's shorter extra heavy cousins :D.

Can't wait to get this one started, and finished!

  11. Cant wait to see this finished. And hope all goes well next week

  13. Thanks gentlemen!! I think if someone just offered her $50k she'd truly go away, lol...but for now, I'm just doing what I can. I'll be sure to let you all know how things work out after court tomorrow.

  16. Thanks guys. We'll know in seven hours. Hopefully the judge can see beyond black and white law, and will actually take the kids into consideration. I'll let you all know.
