Sorry to be the bearer of sad news, but Charlie Harlan (ChucktheButcher) passed away over the weekend.
I hope to have information on the funeral/ memorial service arrangements within the next day or so if any local forum members wish to pay their respects.
Over the last few years we’ve all been able to ogle Charlie’s amazing collection of knives and stones. And if you ever had the honor to meet him in person he was just as eager and passionate as he seemed on the forums. He was a very nice guy, and very generous as well.
He will be missed. RIP, Charlie.

  2. Very sad news, he was only on here a few days ago and I went off looking at all the wondeful stuff he had posted.
I wasn't one of the people lucky enough to have met him, but I have heard plenty of great things about him.

    R.I.P, Charlie

  10. That's terrible! Chuck was an amazingly nice guy, and bought the second kitchen knife I ever sold. His kind words and generous praise for what I now consider 'early' work were a lot of the motivation I had for continuing. He will very much be missed.

How sad. He seemed like a really nice guy. He'll really be missed. One of the most amazing collection of knives & stones out there.

  13. What horrible news! Chuck bought one of the very first five knives I ever made. Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but he was clearly passionate about the forum community as well as his love for knives and food. Without his early support I can't say I know where I'd be as a maker. @WildBoar, Please let me know if there is anything I can do. --With a heavy heart, Mareko

  14. Oh, no. I'm so sorry to hear this. I didn't know Charles, but he seemed like a great guy that was always up to something. My condolences to his family and those that knew him.

  15. It looks like he was inspirational to a few of us, brother. Truly a good man.

Just returned from the celebration at Green Pig Bistro (missed the memorial service due to work). Wow, even a lot more people than last night. His father finished the display case and a few dozen knives were being shown off. I think a bit was lost on the 'civilians', but for those on the forums it is a jaw-dropping display. All I have are some poor pics due to low lighting and reflections though; if I can get one of them improved a little I will post.
