hi! Any racing fans here. American Pharoah just won the Triple Crown, a feat not accomplished since I was 13, 37 years ago. Not only was it a thrilling race, but truly a historic event. Brought tears to my eyes. This amazing horse ran the second fastest Belmont of any triple crown winner, and the 7 fastest overall. And, he wasn't even pushed. What a feat, a rare opportunity to see true greatness. It was inspiring to me.

I didn't have a chance to see the race. All week I was looking forward to it and REALLY wanted to watch. Dang that I missed it.

I didn't want him to win. Might be a great horse, but I can't stand Baffert.

I watched Secretariat win the triple crown. He made any other horse look like a wind up pony.

Now Lucretia, did we forget our happy pills today?! :p

Nah, up to date on my happy pills. Just don't like a trainer who drugs his horses.

Here's a little comparison for you, if you want to see a horse who's "not pushed". And still holds the track record.

That's now my favorite YouTube video. Thanks for sharing I wanted to see the race and missed it. To watch it side by side with the last triple crown winner...awesome!

There's Secretariat, then every other horse. I'm glad AP was able to accomplish the TC though. I don't particularly care for Baffert either.

I wonder if he had had a little competition on the stretch if AP would have or could have had a better time. I'm neutral on Baffert but I'm very happy for everyone else involved with the horse from the stable boy to the jockey. And being from Louisville, we've been waiting for a triple crown winner for decades! It's exciting for us with the first leg being here!

My old man (and inlaws) are from Louisville. So that might be a point for or against you, depending on who's been good or bad lately. :D

Fyi I started this to acknowledge a great accomplishment and athletic prowess of AP. He is truly a great race horse. Who cares if his time was not as fast as Secretariet, whose Belmont was probably the most amazing display by any racehorse in this century. I just wanted to share the joy his accomplishments have brought to me. I have waited a long time for another TC winer.. No need to compare or criticize.

That depends on your definition of bad....I mean good. ;)

And you are right Maximus, it was an exciting and extraordinary accomplishment that many of us had been yearning to witness for some time.

When an athlete wins something, it's usually fair game to compare them to past winners, much like you did in the bolded above. I don't think anyone is disrespecting AP. It's a fantastic win by a great horse.

Steve Haskin wrote a nice column on the blood horse website. I especially liked the qoute by Edgar Allen Poe, who I never would have guessed.
