  1. JNS for me

  2. Looks nice! Haven't had a 1k for a while. A gesshin 2k fits the bill for me, probably my least used (i don't let my knives get to that point anymore) but most loved stone.

  3. My Chosera 800 is on its last legs, unfit to be shown. Will for sure be replaced by the same. Very fast, hard cutter. Grit more or less equivalent to JIS1200.

I've got the JNS 1K and 800. Both are good, but the 800 is just more enjoyable.

That is what Im saying. Its just good enough.
Before, when using King, I could get the finish MUCH much better than with the jns and even the 800, even though its more muddy.
So purely for polishing jobs I would pick King over jns's. Easy.

But the king lose height rather quickly, and for a sharpening, the mud is annoying.
Also, I dont flatten the jns's, I rarely do flattening at all, but thats not the case with softies softy stones.

So, the question is, whats best suitable for what you are doing with it?

I really like the JNS 1K for carbon and Jon's 1k diamond stone for stainless.

I tried about a half dozen medium grit stones over the years, and I love my Mizuyama 1200. I have no definitive proof, but I'd swear it's the same stone that's marketed as the Bester 1200. It's great on a variety of steel, very fast, and leaves a terrific edge.

My new chosera 800. I've definitely been missing out.

  12. The JKI large 1,ooo is awesome. I am also a big fan of the shapton pro and the sigma power.

********, I got sad all over again.

  16. Agree. I haven't tried many different stones, but I really like the feedback of the JNS 800. Also, I like the matte finish it leaves when thinning. I have the new JNS 1K as well and tried it for a while on my carbons, but now I only use it for hard-to-sharpen, cheap, stainless knives or when splash-and-go is convenient. Atoma 400 followed by JNS 1K is really nice to use on those cheapo knives... :)

  17. +1

  18. Chosera 1K. Mine is at least 4 years old and still going strong.

  19. My replacement Naniwa Professional 800 is just slightly harder and denser than the Chosera, FWIW
