I plan on getting a D800E, next. My last DSLR was D600, and I really liked it. I sold that for knives, though, so I've just been using my iPhone 5S lately.

  3. Yes, every time I look at camera's or tires or food I think that's 1.5 knives right there :$

iPhone 5. I've been a cell phone camera user since....2009? They have taken decent enough pictures for me so I have no need for a real camera. I'm no pro

Just bought a Sony Cyber-shot HX50 tonight at Costco. It's 20.4 megapixels and has all kinds of other functions, doesn't take up too much space and takes videos. With a little one arriving in less than a month, I figured a replacement for my old Canon Elph that looks like it belonged to a war correspondent was due. I plan on taking it to Seattle this weekend and taking some pics. With the Wi-Fi feature I should be able to post right from the show with the camera.

  6. iPhone 5s for internet stuff since I use my iPad almost exclusively these days. For everything else, i have a canon rebel t3i.

I used to shoot with DSLR's but gave up on them bulky thingys because I never bothered bringing them anywere. Nowadays I have a couple Leica compacts. Digilux 4 and a X Vario. I'm a lousy fotographer so those two works just fine for me;)

Nikon forever for me. D300 that I got for a screaming deal from pro photog friend. Nikkor 18-200mm. It's definitely heavy, especially with an extended battery pack, so you gotta loooooove taking pictures. It does amazing things though.

Panasonic DMC-TS2. Don't laugh. I'm outside a lot in bad weather, and this little waterproof camera takes decent enough photos to keep me mostly happy. I do want to buy a "proper" DSLR or at least try a Canon G15 or G16.

The majority of pictures I post in the forum are taken with my third gen. iPad. It's just so much easier to load them into a post than having to first transfer from my camera. My camera is what I use for the photos I load onto my site. It's a Nikon D80, a bit dated by today's standards, but with a tripod and a wide open lens I get great depth of field and clarity. DSLRs are so expensive these days I'm sticking with my D80.

I use a Canon t3i. Got a couple simple lenses, want to get a remote capable shoe mount flash, a nice tripid, and a good light tent. Right now I try to wait for an overcast day, to make use of natural light.

Since getting out of photography, I have stopped caring about cameras and glass. I have some old Nikkor stuff that works fine, but I could care less these days if a pic is taken with a kit lens or a superzoom p&s or a medium/large format rig. Those intangibles are overrated by fetishists, and I just don't get any enjoyment from taking pics of random spots of color or contrast in my neighborhood with a Hasselblad, or human posteriors from a prefocused Leica on my hip, or models in a studio with cookie-cutter lighting and cliche poses and hair tossing.

Many hobbyist photographers are doing some great things, and they don't always realize it's a function of their cerebral assets and not the 3rd-order spherical aberration in their "bokeh" or the Olympus color reproduction or whatever nuanced imaging characteristic is popular with kids these days.

That said, decent autofocus is nice to have, and some systems kind of suck at it (my cheap Nikon does poorly in optical viewfinder phase detect AF but does very well, but slowly, with live view on the screen).
