A little bit about me and the knives I make...

I am a part time knife-maker working in my own shop. Knife making for me is a process of creating a chef knife that is functional, appealing to the eye, and a pleasure to use in the kitchen. Whether for the home cook or the professional chef, I strive to provide a cutting tool that will satisfy on every level.
Knife making provides an outlet that I thoroughly enjoy. It satisfies both the engineer and the artist in me.
Free time is devoted to the study primarily of Japanese and also western style kitchen knives. I am an engineer and problem solver by nature, and knife making provides both the challenge and the satisfaction of creating an optimal cutting tool.

A lot of time and thought goes into this work and I take pride in my craftsmanship on each knife made.

I enjoy every part of the process from design, to grinding, to the final fit and finish of each blade.
For steel I work primarily with AEBL stainless and 52100 carbon steels. These both have a long track record of proven performance in a chef knife.
Heat treatment of the steel is a crucial part of the design for any knife. I choose my hardness range based on the type of knife and the tasks intended for each one. This part of the process I outsource to a professional shop which specializes in heat treating knife steels. Each blade is individually hardness tested on completion to ensure my expectations are met.
