How do you guys eat vegemite?

Discussion in 'Food and Drink' started by Cheeks1989, Feb 20, 2016.

  1. I took a teaspoon of it and am really regretting it. Would appreciate any tips or tricks to make this stuff shine.

There is a yummy Malaysian dish called Marmite pork ribs which should be fine with Vegemite. Thus guy had a recipe baseed on vegemite http://one-wok.blogspot.com.au/2015/08/vegemite-short-ribs.html?m=1.

I have also seen bbq people down here use it in wet marinade.

It is not my favorite with toast not growing uo here, but have learnt to eat it in small quantity.

  11. Looks like i have a death wish according to thar

  12. I'm not picky, i love food an i eat pretty much everything (or at least taste), but marmite/vegemite is just a creation of evil.
So, Cheeks1989, my friend, there so many nice food to try out there and give rest of that thing away to someone who you don't like. :)

  13. Haha thanks guys. I actually think that it could give some depth and richness in sauces. I'll give that a whirl schanop.

I think it goes something like this:

"Been on walkabout 16 days now. Lost me supplies when the dingos ran off with my knapsack. No food the last four days. Now I can dig around in this termite mound and eat me a pile of termites, or I can catch and roast me that big hairy tarantula over there. Or, I can eat the one thing those dingos would not take -- me vegemite...

..looks like it's gonna be tarantula tonight -- I'm not desparate enough to eat vegemite yet."

  15. Haha David! It's not that bad.

My ex-wife lived in the NW Cape for two 2-4 year stints when she was a kid. She ate vegemite and her younger sister ate marmite. Tried them both a couple times, and I would pick the tarantula :p

BTW, I visited for about 3 weeks in the late '90s. Thankfully there were always meat patties/ pies around just about everywhere, so when we were away from the main population centers and all the good steaks, etc. I still was able to make do. I have some pretty fond memories of driving along a coastal road that was too narrow for me to pass the emu running in front of me. Also very cool hitting a beach and competing with wallabees for the best spot on the sand.

My Vegemite on toast most closely resembles the last pic in Rick's how to.

Vegemite & avocado is great, so is Vegemite with cheese.
