Just got home and you have a box containing a brand new knife, what do you do with it ? Sit and admire for a while, take pics and hit the fora acquisition thread, straight to stones ?. I'm sure everyone is different, and im sure depending onwhere the wives out there are the first thing some of you do is hide it well until she goes to sleep

    Interested to know

How mutch this time?It ends with a few days visual but very quit in the home.

If the box with the new knife is yours, James....... then I'm sure that the first thing you do after opening the box is check to see just how sharp that wicked looking blade is and cut yourself. :D

Topher will know better and hide when he sees it. :)

I tend to cut a ton of vegetables. Whatever I can get my hand on. Shallots tend to have a tough skin and I try to brunnoise a bunch. Julienne onions, see how thing I can slice a lemon, large dice a bunch of potatoes, cut 6 pounds of mire-poix and look for a sale on oxtails at the asian market. French Onion soup tends to happen. Onions are cheap when there is a restaurant supply store a block away and you get the monstrous 1 pounders. Same with the carrots 8D

If the OOTB edge isn't what I like, I'll hit the stones trying to keep the same bevel. If I still don't like I change the bevel but I have only had to do that to one knife and that was the cutting boards' fault. (Edge was too thin on my Laser and it would make a snapping noise when it would hit the board. Emailed Mark Richmond about it and he said lower the angle a little and it worked. Kudos to him. )

You guys/gals are getting waaay to far ahead of yourselves. The first thing you do is open the box slowly, then really fast, stick your nose in the box and inhale the air that was trapped inside. I'm not the only one that does that, right? [IMG]

Well, if you're gonna be that way.... The first thing you do is take a video of yourself opening the box and post it on You Tube (said video should be at least 9 minutes long and be accompanied with a really bad narrative). [IMG]

I am nuts a new box means a camera, I cant wait to post picks and see how many people I can talk into an Acquisition so I don't feel bad about my purchase. nothing wrong with a little acquisition consulting on the Fora

I usually see if it can shave the hairs off my arm. If it can I say "ooo dats sharp" if it can't I call my dad and ask if he wants to sharpen a knife.

I'll check the knife first if there any flaws; for exsample, overgring on blade, hole on edge, F/F on handle....etc.
