LOL, I like your disapproval tone for a small expensive Le Creuset grill pan, but it is to accompany a Lodge reversible double burner grill pan I have already got. BBQ gas grill and charcoal grill are also just a few steps away from a kitchen, if I want to go all out with grilling.

Totally agree, that a basic double burner cast iron grill pan is very nice to have.

  4. Carboot sale season??

    I'm interested :)

On the subject of pans...what would you consider a good, relatively inexpensive starter kit for a guy who has only ever used pans from Wal Mart or Target (excepting a couple of old hand me down cast iron pieces)??

I'm going to be in the market for new pans here shortly :).

For fry pan, De Buyer carbon steel pans and Lodge cast iron pans are definitely of good value and inexpensive.

For cladded pan, all-clad is probably not that expensive in the US. Although is a bit more pricey here in Australia, but definitely has much better build quality than cheaper pans that I have used.

  6. Nice! And thanks! Any basic sizes and shapes that would get a beginner off to a reasonable start?

Well, I have 10" De Buyer carbon steel pan, 12" Lodge cast iron pan, All-clad 10" sauté pan, 2qt, 3qt, and 4qt saucier and sauce pans among other things, and think that's a good start.

  9. Those are great resources my friend, thanks!!

I am going to look through my box of old pans from my great grandmother to start. Most are enameled cast iron pieces...though I think there's a couple good pure cast iron pans in there also.

  20. Speaking of cutting boards, Tree & CO finally got ahold of me in regards to my split board lol.

I'm not sure whether I'm going to take them up on it. I mean...an even bigger board would be nice, but the $25 discount doesn't even add up to the cost of the repair on the old board lol, much less the time and effort involved in fixing it.

I wonder if I could take the 20% off of a table island top? Maybe that'd be worth it!!
