Probably not but no one would ever expect to see a jigsaw cutting board in someones kitchen.
    Just too cool!

  4. Haha!! So...here's the flaw right?

TOTALLY livable!! I'd just fill it with either some epoxy, or even rub warm beeswax into it until it was filled. The problem however, was that they didn't tell me about this:

And even worse...those of you who have seen a board crack KNOW that the gap doesn't end where the jagged end meets the seam. That's right...it runs all the way up the seam, a full 6" plus lol. You can even see light through it!!

This picture doesn't show...the gap is visible to the naked eye the entire way up the board.

Sooooo...I called Amazon, they gave me $15 back (means I paid $35). I'm calling Tree & CO tomorrow to see if they'll either fix it, or replace it since it was bought from them (Amazon said it was sold under a 3rd party, so its their responsibility). If they don't fix it...I'll tape off the cracks, pool some food safe epoxy on it, suck the epoxy down with a shop vac so I know it's filled the entire gap...and clamp it closed for a day or four. For $35...if I can close the gap and keep it from splitting further, it's well worth the effort I think. Other than that split, it's a pretty nice board :).

  5. if they are good business people they will send you a new one, besides the crack or whatever how is the board? what wood is it made out of?

  6. Heavy, flat...though it could use a sanding to smooth the join lines. I attribute this to climate changes more than anything though. Segmented wa handles do the same thing when shipped to different climates. All in all it seems a quality board.

The woods are simply listed as 'Reclaimed Malaysian Hardwoods'. Apparently they tear down old buildings and repurpose the wood. If you look, my board has a nail hole (this is what propogated the crack I think). Rather than taking away from the quality though, I think this would add character in other circumstances. Supposedly many of the woods in these boards are no longer available for export, and others are even extinct.

Kinda interesting really. I mean...my board could've been a home, church, school...who knows?

I like the idea of reclaimed wood. I got some reclaimed American chestnut Pieces, supposedly from an old barn in PA. Not much to look at compared to other woods, but with a nice history to it.

  8. this restaurant that I helped open, super Authentic Italian, they were rich as hell , and the owners bought the wood floors that were reclaimed from an old barn in Italy

I think so, Im guessing that for no reason whatsoever, that bag of baby carrots is going to be finely diced down to feed the rabbits that like to hang out in my backyard lol

Somedays it sucks to be a carrot.

  16. Very nice knife, James! I also love that handle.

I just tried a Haburn knife as a part of a pass-around. I wrote a review about it. I loved the knife, it cut like a dream. The only thing I liked less was it's weight due to a special handle, but it looks like yours doesn't have a problem with that.

Please write how you like the knife!

I just received my first two Le Creuset pieces, a braiser and a small rectangular grill pan. I have been a Staub user for a while, and has a piece of Chasseur.

The Le Creuset braiser has piqued my interest for a long long time, and last weekend eBay has 20% everything at Peter's of Kensington eBay store, just couldn't resist.

I've been thinking about a grill pan. how useful would it be? I was thinking winter time steaks and such.

  20. Mike, if you buy a griddle pan, make sure it is big enough for at least 2 decent steaks. :)
Anyway, the carboot sale season has just started so could get a nice cast iron one for pennies.
