Forum running slow for anyone else?

Discussion in 'Support' started by WarrenB, Aug 10, 2014.

  1. The forum seems a little slow to load for the past day or so, not all the time but now and then a page will take quite a while to load, all other sites I access load fine, internet connection is running fine at 37Mbps when I just checked, cleared cache etc, anyone else notice anything similar?

  2. Happened to me a few times as well. Page might take 1-2 minutes to load and still some CSS styles seems to be missing. Though hitting 'reload' a few times usually helps.

No errors on the server or forum logs. Most likely a network issue tween you and the server. That or the NSA is wiretapping us again.

  4. Ok, just off to the kitchen to make a new tin foil hat:D

there are rumors of a massive taco and hot dog binge in the New York area this past weekend. I betcha that's what it was.

  8. It's actually became quite annoying today. Here's what speedtest showing about my connection speed:

So definitely it's not something related to "slow internet". Quick'n'dirty diagnosis shows that there are problems with KKFora server itself. Sometimes it takes ages to generate HTML or CSS page. Here's example from Chrome:

You'd greatly improve loading speed by making all CSS completely static and concatenated/minimized into single file.
Caching time for avatars is too small (just few hours). They would be redownloaded few times a day instead of being taken from cache.

Here's another story that I'm seeing in Firefox: 3.png Now this is just slow server that generates page for more then a minute.

I have a feeling that there might be some tasks running at night by cron on server, that makes server respond much slower then it should. And because of night time, those issues are mostly noticeable by non US members.

Your Ookla test illustrates something else. we are behind in broadband. In my case way behind.

What exact time (UTC) are you experiencing this? Naturally, because the server hosts 99% US based customers, backups are run in the middle of the US night.

  11. I'm seeing delays roughly between 12 and 14 UTC.

I've never seen internet speeds that fast
Fastest I've seen for myself is 24mbps and that's with my LTE phone!
